With this, Twitter joins the bandwagon of social media platforms following the TikTok video reel model.
In the announcement, published on its blog, the company announced that its video player is being updated to be immersive: when clicking, the image will be displayed in full screen and, when swiping up, the user “will begin to browse content from the more engaging video”.
In addition, a video carousel will also begin to appear in the Explore tab, showing “some of the most popular videos shared on Twitter”.
The new video preview format should start appearing in iOS apps in the coming days, and the videos suggested in the Explore tab are now available to people “in selected countries” on iOS or Android. Both updates will arrive first for those who use the English app.
